TBA PS Past , Present + Future

As we're approaching Christmas and approaching the end of the year, I'm feeling a bit reflective. This mood has been partly bought on by the time of year and by the recent sad death of my friend, mentor and former boss Dave Hurst, who helped me so much during the early part of my career and with whom I formed a strong friendship and partnership that I like to think moved this business forward.
Dave was involved in the business from its very earliest days back in 1985 when it was known as New Business Team as part of #TBAIndustrialProducts before it became #TBAElectroConductiveProducts in 1986.
Coming out of #TBAs research business #MaterialsResearchLtd,his first task and achievement was to develop #ECP104 #conductivePP, the much improved version of this product is still being manufactured at our premises today. #ECP104 finds uses in #electronics #antistaticpackaging + #ATEX applications such as #powderhandling in #ordnance environments.

Dave continued to develop a larger range of #conductivethermoplastics adding #nylon6 #HIPS #LDPE #HDPE to the offering. He also worked with other technical colleagues in the business to add #EMIRFIshieldinggaskets and #EMIShieldingppaints to the business, an #ESDevent is an #EMIissue after all so it was a natural organic progression for the business.

I joined the business in 1989, like most of the staff I came from a research background , From the start me and Dave got along well with a shared sense of humour and following two football teams that didn't achieve much. Dave did enjoy the Joe Royle years at #Latics and after many years of suffering I am greatly enjoying the success at #ManCity, miserable Monday mornings are for #United fans now.
I was set the tasks of developing a new #conductiveneoprenmat #dissipativematting and obtaining #ISO9001( #BS5750 back then). Dave didn't exactly leave me me to sink or swim but it wasn't far off, that said I prefer it that way - you learn faster.

During the early nineties he helped me move into product management, where my task was to greatly extend our range of #elecrostaticprotection product for #electronics #electrostaticprotectedareas plus adding to the range of #EMIshielding + #antistaticpaints.
During this period we added #instrumentation #multilayerantistaticmatting #antistaticfieldservicekits as we acquiredsole supplier status for #BT.

In the late nineties #T+N the group that owned #TBAIndustrialProducts collapsed and #TBAECP got new owners based in the #USA.
Dave became Business Manager at this point and he led the business through he period of challenges that the process of #globalistion bought #UKmanufacturing.
During this period we used the principles of #innovation imbued in the business through our combined backgrounds in R+D to reinvent the business to deal with these challenges.
Together we developed product for #ATXapplications including #colouredstaticdissipativethermoplastics , developed many more applications for our existing #EMIShieldingThermoplastics, bespoke #antistaticpackagingsolutions for our customers. In addition we moved slightly away from our core into #magneticallydetectablepolymers and products.

Taking this approach #TBAECP met the challenge of globalisation. The financial crash of 2008 bought an entirely new set of difficult challenges but were again met with innovation.
During this period we established a productive partnership with #SmithersRapra, particpating in a series of projects along with #Aimplas #TNO to name a few. Together we developed new #nanotechnology based #thermoplastics and #paints. During this period myself and Dave formed new friendships with staff at these establishments that last to this day.

Dave finally passed the baton to me in 2014 when he decided to retire, he got a deserved good send off from his colleagues with whom he had enjoyed his career.
I looked to carry on in the same spirit , with innovation and developing continuing strong relationships with our customers, with problem solving at the core of those relationships, but some form of relaunch was necessary.
This involved ditching the old Electro Conductive Products name which I felt was unwieldy and did not describe our business. Fortunately, I engaged the #SmithGoodfellowPR to help. Together we came up with current name #TBAProtectiveSolutions and our current logo, giving us a much shaeper and modern look.
The present business has developed well this year, our established products continue to solve our customers problems and we continue to innovate with new products this including our new #FloorShield range of #floorhardeners #FloorSealers and #antislip #antistaticfloorpaints. #TBAPS #EMIShieldingProducts have been enhanced with the addition of #EMIFilters #ThermalInterfacePads and a new range of #conductivetapes.

#Next year we will be adding #thermalproectivetextiles including #basaltfabrics #siliconecoatedglass + #silicafabrics. In addition #TBAPS will extend our range of #antistaticthermoplastics #conductivepaints #antistaticproducts #EMIShieldinggaskets.
We have consistently demonstrated that we can meet the challenges our customers give us and that the broader economy throws at us and our innovative problem solving approach will continue to help us be successful in the future.
I think Dave would be pleased that the business he helped build and drive forward is surviving and thriving.
